$75,000 raised for the Supply Corps
Foundation!
Nearly 300 members and friends of the Navy Supply Corps Foundation turned
out for the Foundation’s Black Tie Gala aboard the USS
Midway
in
San Diego Harbor in October. The event, which was cosponsored by the San
Diego Supply Corps Association, was tied to the opening of the first of the
supply displays aboard the
Midway
Museum. A tribute to the more than three dozen distinguished Alumni of the
Supply Corps was a highlight of the evening. On hand to be recognized were
Gil Osnos, Gerry Petry, Jackson Shultz, Don St. Angelo, Henry Trione, and
Bill Withrow. DAs Regis Philbin and Roger
Staubauch sent their greetings via videotape. In addition, the event helped
raise $75,000 for the Foundation’s heritage and scholarship programs. The
gala topped off a weekend of Foundation activities that started with
the annual meeting
of the Association Presidents. John Kizer, Chair of the Foundation’s
Association Relations committee, called the meeting “the most successful to
date,” noting that representatives from 15 of the 16 Associations were able
to make it. Topics discussed included Association organization and
procedures, as well as communication issues including maintaining quality
web pages. The Foundation Board of Directors
also met and welcomed new Directors Gil Osnos, Jim Allan, Tom Billings and
Dennis Collins. Smoke Hickman, Chairman of the Foundation Board, thanked
outgoing Board members Pat McClanahan, Ken Epps, and Doug Chin for their
service. Among other actions, the Board received
the Investment Advisory Committee report on the status of Foundation
investments. They stressed again their commitment
to closely monitor these investments during the current economic downturn
and ensure the organization’s continued long term strength.
